Operation Clean Up South Jackson Phase 3

The Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods (ASJN) is determined to make a positive difference in South Jackson. For the third straight month, ASJN has invited the entire Jackson community to get involved - to pick up trash wherever you see it.  Once again, the community did not disappoint. Over 60 volunteers, groups and organizations came out to “Keep Jackson Beautiful”.  This month ASJN concentrated its trash pickup efforts along the Terry Road corridor.  Let it be noted that Terry Road itself was virtually litter free; however, litter was found at intersections or within neighborhoods located off Terry Road.

Citizens, black and white, eagerly reported to the old Kroger parking lot located at 3520Terry Road  at 7:30 a.m. to receive litter grabbers, gloves, trash bags and safety vests.  Mississippi House of Representative District 71 - Ronnie Crudup, Jr.  offered the group use of his “soon to be opened” coffee shop for refreshments and restrooms.  Thank you, Rep. Crudup.  Once everyone checked in, teams and streets were assigned, Brittney Bowman led the team in prayer and off teams went to pick up trash.

Teams were in the field from 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. picking up litter/trash.  Some people gave an hour, some gave the entire time.  Whatever time and efforts you gave, ASJN thank you.  Teams picked up litter/ trash along Pine Lawn Dr, Kimbrough Dr, Pinetree Dr, Cooper Rd, Meadow, N Sunset Terrace Rd, Fleming St, Savannah, Dees Dr, Lakeshore Dr,  Elton Rd, Dona Ave, Leavellwood, Raymond Rd, Dorgan St,  McDowell Rd Ext and Flowers Dr.  Teams collected 30 tires, 3 mattresses, 60 bags of garbage, all of which could be placed on the curb to be picked up by Waste Management during regular trash pickup days.
